Future Continuous (Progressive)

It will be raining when I get up. It will begin raining late tonight. I will get up at 9:00 tomorrow morning. The action of raining will begin before I get up, and it will be in progress at a particular time in the future. Probably, the rain will continue.

Past Continuous (Progressive)

It was raining when I woke up. It started raining late last night. I awoke at 9:00. It was still raining. The rain began before and was in progress at a particular time in the past. It continued after I awoke.

Present Continuous (Progressive)

It is raining right now. Today is Tuesday. It started to rain 1 hour ago, and it is still raining. The rain began in the past, is in progress at the present time, and probably will continue.

Continuous (or Progressive) tenses

The Continuous tenses convey the idea that an action is in progress during a particular time. These tenses say that an action begins before another action or time, is in progress during another action or time, or continues after another action or time. Form of usage: be + -ing (present participle)

Simple Future

This will happen at a particular time in the future. It will rain tomorrow. It is going to rain tomorrow. Maria will eat fish next Friday. Maria is going to eat fish next Friday.

Simple Past

This tense refers to something which began and ended in the past. Quite simply, this occurred at one particular time in the past. It rained 2 days ago. She ate fish last Friday.
